ABBOTSFORD — Participants from 10 softball teams did more than battle the sweltering summer heat earlier this month in Abbotsford.

The participants helped raise over $7,000 for area hospitals’ biggest needs as part of the 2nd annual Healthcare Heroes Slo-Pitch Tournament at Exhibition Park in Abbotsford on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13.

“It was great to see everyone come out and enjoy a fun weekend of ball while watching the jets fly above from the Abbotsford Airshow,” said Leslie Gmur, fund development coordinator. for the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation. “We had 10 teams join us this year while trying to stay cool in the 32 degree weather.”

Get Lit defended their title from 2022 and came out on top against the Darkside, with Diamond Dusters coming in third place in in Pool A. The Tickleberries and The Force called tied for first in Pool B, with Dangerous Goods coming in third.

Generous sponsors included Angry Otter, Kitt Equipment and The Canadian Brewhouse. Together with all the volunteers, teams and spectators, the foundation was able to raise just over $7,350 towards the Fraser Valley hospitals’ greatest needs.

The 3rd annual Healthcare Heroes charity tournament will be held in June 2024. To reserve your spot for next year, or if you are interested in becoming a sponsor, contact Leslie Gmur at leslie.gmur@fraserhealth.ca, or call their office at 604-851-4890 for more information.
