Chiefs training camp opens today at Chilliwack Coliseum
CHILLIWACK — The excitement of a new season arrives today with the opening of the Chilliwack Chiefs’ training camp
This year’s training camp at the Coliseum promises to be extra special with scrimmages featuring two teams named after a pair of Chilliwack hockey heroes who played pivotal roles in bringing the Fred Page Cup to Chilliwack in 2000.
Wyatt Tunnicliffe played two seasons with the Chiefs capping his career with the Fred Page Cup victory. The Chilliwack native played 110 regular season games and scored 87 points. He then went on to play at Lakehead University. He’s now a successful business owner and Mortgage Broker in Chilliwack and a proud supporter of the Chiefs Adopt-a-School program with Rosedale Traditional School.
Nathan Martz played in 177 regular season games with the Chiefs and was drafted by the New York Rangers. He had 189 points including 110 in the Fred Page Cup winning season. Since retiring from professional hockey he’s returned home to Chilliwack, coaching the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds to a BCEHL U18 Championship and has spent time with the Chiefs organization.
