Air quality advisory could continue into Monday through the Fraser Valley
CHILLIWACK — The Air Quality Advisory covering Chilliwack, Abbotsford and the rest of the Fraser Valley, will remain in effect until further notice according to the Metro Vancouver Regional District. The advisory has been in place since Friday (Aug. 25) and is expected to stay in place through Monday.
The advisory is a result of wildfires that have been burning in the B.C. interior and the state of Washington.
In addition, officials are concerned about high concentrations of ground-level ozone that are expected Sunday due to hot and sunny conditions combined with wildfire smoke.
Tuesday offers a glimmer of hope for Fraser Valley residents with a change in the weather in the forecast. Environment Canada is predicting unsettled conditions to move into the area Monday evening, possibly producing showers Monday evening and periods of rain Tuesday. Rain showers generally have the effect of scrubbing the air shed clean of fine particulate matter that results in air quality advisories.
