CAMP HOPE — A BC Adventist church camp west of Hope has accepted approximately 50 evacuees from the Kookipi Creek wildfire.

According to a social media post from Camp Hope, located at 61855 Lougheed Highway west of Hope, the BC Adventist church camp has taken in just under 50 guests.

“As of late last Thursday night, under the auspices of the Fraser Valley Regional District emergency services, we are hosting fire evacuees again,” Camp Hope wrote on its social media page.

Camp Hope says the majority are from the community near Boothroyd up in the Fraser Canyon north of Hope.

“We have just shy of 50 guests currently. We do not know how long the evacuation will last. It all depends on the weather and how the battle with the fire goes,” Camp Hope wrote on its Facebook page.

The camp is providing three meals a day each and every day. It says it could receive even more evacuees if the community of Boston Bar, with an estimated population of 166 people according to the 2021 census, is evacuated due to the nearby Kookipi Creek wildfire.

“We could get significantly more evacuee guests if Boston Bar gets an evacuation order. They currently are just on alert,” Camp Hope said.

The church camp has benefited from generous donations of fresh garden vegetables, fresh corn and cucumbers, and even some freshly donated salmon.

“Today we served some fresh donated salmon. Thank you to that donor as well,” Camp Hope indicated.
