Out of control fire north of Chilliwack Lake doubles in size
CHILLIWACK — A fire north of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park in the mountainous Skagit Range has grown from 356 hectares as reported last week to over 800 hectares as of Sunday.
The BC Wildfire Service updated its website over the weekend about the fire that has been burning for well over a month.
Fire V11256 was first discovered back on July 7 and has grown to 805 hectares in size as of Sunday, August 20 at 3:13 p.m. It is considered out of control and is believed to be naturally caused and not by human activity.
BCWS says this fire is being monitored daily. When a fire is being monitored, it means BC Wildfire Service is observing and analyzing the fire but it’s not immediately suppressed. It may be allowed to burn to achieve ecological or resource management objectives and is used on remote fires that do not threaten values.
