ABBOTSFORD — A repeat offender with no regard for authority is facing multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted an Abbotsford Police Department officer earlier this month.

According to a social media post from the department, AbbyPD patrol members observed an occupied stolen vehicle in the area of Robertson Avenue in Abbotsford on Sunday, August 6 at about 11:40 a.m.

Officers arrested the male driver for possession of stolen property and located two imitation firearms upon searching the vehicle. The driver also was found to be impaired and was issued a 3-day immediate driving prohibition.

The following day, Monday, August 7, at 7 a.m., police say the same driver assaulted a police officer. The suspect was taken into custody again as the driver was observed breaching his driving prohibition issued to him the previous night.

The officer placed the offender in custody, who this time is being charged criminally for yet again driving while impaired, along with charges of assaulting a peace officer (section 270 of the Criminal Code of Canada), obstructing a peace officer (section 129), operation while prohibited (section 320), and operation while impaired (section 320).

“Thank you, AbbyPD frontline officers, for continuously ensuring public safety and holding repeat offenders accountable for their actions,” the Abbotsford Police Department wrote in its social media post.

The AbbyPD files for these two incidents are 23-36666 and 23-36783, respectively.
