New fire discovered east of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park on Sunday: BCWS

CHILLIWACK — The BC Wildfire Service has listed a new fire east of Chilliwack Lake, one of two fires that are currently burning in the region.

According to the BCWS website, fire V12722 is listed as two hectares in size and is deemed out of control. It was first discovered Sunday, August 13 at 11:43 a.m. Its location is one kilometre west of Maselpanik Creek.

BCWS believes it was caused naturally or by lighting, not by human activity.

A fire north of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park in the mountainous Skagit Range has been burning for over a month. Fire V11256 was first discovered back on July 7 and has grown to 356 hectares in size. It is considered out of control and is believed to be natural causes.
