Chilliwack Fire Department’s paid on-call firefighter recruitment underway

CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Fire Department has kicked off its annual paid-on-call (POC) firefighter recruitment drive for the upcoming 2023-2024 Recruit Training Program. Aspiring local firefighters are being called upon to join the ranks of the Chilliwack Fire Department.

The heart of the POC firefighter role lies in being a good neighbor. Responding around the clock to emergencies, these everyday citizens are an essential force, ready to jump into action when paged. Not only do they display unwavering commitment, but they also earn an hourly wage for their service during emergencies and participate in weekly practice sessions to enhance their skills.

While extinguishing fires is part of their skillset, the role extends far beyond that. POC firefighters will attend medical emergencies, motor vehicle incidents, fire alarm activations, gas leaks, and diverse rescue operations. Their role makes them integral to the safety and wellbeing of Chilliwack’s residents.
