CHILLIWACK — Organizers are promising a memorable weekend with this year’s Chilliwack Mural Festival. The 2023 festival will focus on both Stó:lō and international artists.

“The Chilliwack Mural Festival is thrilled to transport you into a world of artistic wonderment in 2023 as we unveil the captivating works of six extraordinary new artists,” said Lise Oakley, Director for the Chilliwack Mural Festival.

The event will begin Thursday and run through Saturday in the downtown. In a news release, organizers say residents will experience “six new groundbreaking artists that will shape the city’s imagination and expressivity into a spectacle.”

The festival takes pride in its willingness to push the boundaries of urban art. This year it partnered with local Stó:lō artist Carrielynn Victor as co-curator.

It will open Thursday with a public talk to discuss Stó:lō art from different backgrounds and perspectives. The festival takes to the streets Friday and Saturday as residents will be treated to static murals as well as live art demonstrations, interactive performances & cultural workshops, and live music from acts such as Naduh, Mauvey, Mike Edel, The Unbranded, semi-athletic, and more.

“Prepare to be inspired as we infuse our city with creativity that will leave a unique mark on our hearts and the local landscape,” said Oakley.

The festival is presented by the Chilliwack Arts Council annually.
It’s dedicated to embracing the city’s artistic spirit and is considered one of the premier cultural events on the calendar in the Fraser Valley.

A complete schedule is available from the mural festival website.
