VANCOUVER — The Canadian branch of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union says it’s gearing up for a rally on Sunday at downtown Vancouver’s Jack Poole plaza.

The union says it anticipates a large turnout of supporters, strikers and international labour leaders to gather and call on the B-C Maritime Employers Association to make a deal to end the strike.

I-L-W-U Canada president Rob Ashton says shipping companies and terminals have been cleaning up and making record profits while neglecting front-line port workers.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the strike action’s impacts are reverberating throughout the western provinces, and that the government is maintaining pressure on the parties to reach a deal at the bargaining table.
