Fraser Valley drivers warned to expect delays as long weekend draws to a close
VICTORIA — The Victoria Day long weekend is coming to a close, which will mean lots of traffic on highways through the region. Traffic volumes are expected to grow along Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley as travellers conclude their holiday weekend trips.
Meantime the B.C. Ministry of Transportation is reminding motorists to be prepared for delays of up to 45 minutes for those travelling through the Fraser Canyon and the Thompson Canyon along Highway 1.
Construction crews are continuing to restore the highway following the devastating destruction created by an atmospheric river event in November 2021.
Road work at Falls Creek, approximately 20 km north of Boston Bar, has reduced the highway to a single lane of alternating traffic with a pilot car being used to ferry traffic across a six-kilometre stretch. Delays of up to 45 minutes could be facing drivers over the stretch of road.
