Chilliwack Fire Department deals with hedge fires along Victoria
CHILLIWACK — Firefighters in Chilliwack responded to a pair of hedge fires reported in the city early Saturday (May 13) morning.
The first fire was reported at approximately 2 a.m. in the 45000 block of Victoria Avenue. It was quickly put out by personnel who had responded from Hall 1.
Just 15 minutes later, a second call was received. It was reporting a hedge fire at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Robson Street, just a couple of blocks away from the first fire. Neighbours managed to stamp out that fire but crews attended the scene to ensure the fire was completely out.
It was part of a busy night for firefighters who were also called out to fires on Reece Avenue and Maitland Avenue. While officials believe the fire on Maitland Avenue was caused accidentally, an investigation has been opened into the fire on Reece Avenue. If anyone has any information about the fire, they are asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.upperfraservalleycrimestoppers.ca.
