CHILLIWACK — Members of the Chilliwack Fire Department were called out to an early morning fire Saturday (May 13).
In a news release, fire officials say they were called to a structure fire in the 7000 block of Maitland Avenue. Upon their arrival, they found that residents had managed to douse the flames themselves. Firefighters moved in to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Damage was limited in the home.
It is believed the fire was ignited by discarded smoking materials. Fire officials are reminding the public that when smoking, residents should ensure smoking materials are extinguished and placed in a metal container.
There were no injuries in the incident.
