Snowfall warning issued for Coquihalla

VANCOUVER — Mother Nature is continuing to play havoc with driving conditions through one of B.C.’s busiest high-altitude highways.

Environment Canada has issued a heavy snowfall warning for the Coquihalla highway between Hope and Merritt. It’s expecting up to 20 cm of snow to fall on the roadway by Tuesday (Mar. 14) morning.

It says drivers should expect to find themselves in challenging driving conditions due to the rapid accumulation of snow and changes in conditions as precipitation flips from snow to rain and back again. It warns visibility may be suddenly reduced by heavy snow.

The situation is being caused by a cold front which is moving into the region Monday. As the system approaches, it will bring unsettled conditions leading to precipitation. The snow level is expected to be at 1000 metres.
