No serious injuries in early morning house fire in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — A home in the 45600 block of Victoria Avenue was badly damaged by an early morning fire in Chilliwack.

Chilliwack fire crews reported receiving a call at 4:45 a.m. Monday (Feb. 20) and responded with 30 firefighters from five fire halls. The firefighters arrived to heavy flames and black smoke rising from the home.

The occupants of the home were asleep when flames broke out and were awakened by the smell of smoke. All occupants were able to escape. Only one person suffered minor injuries. However several family pets died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP fire investigators are looking into the matter. Later in the morning, two police cruisers remained on the scene.
