CHILLIWACK — While most everyone else was enjoying their Christmas break, Chilliwack School District maintenance and facilities crew went the extra mile after pipes burst at Sardis Secondary on Christmas Day.

According to an email from Superintendent Rohan Arul-pragasam obtained by Fraser Valley Today, SD33 operations personnel sprung into action after some issues arose with burst pipes and sprinklers at Sardis Secondary over the Christmas winter break.

In particular, a pipe burst in the north end of the campus building, resulting in partial flooding of the dance studio, a music room, and the Sardis Secondary theatre, which is named the “Mike McAstocker Theatre.”

Custodial crews subsequently vacuumed the floor and got as much water as possible, setting up fans to help dry the floor to the maximum extent.

Carpentry crews dealt with the impacted MDF (medium density fibreboard), and crews will be at Sardis Secondary next week to ensure that areas impacted by the burst pipes are repaired.

Sardis Secondary is one of five public high schools in town. It first opened its doors in the fall of 1956.
