Construction completes on Dewdney Bridge replacement near Mission

MISSION — Travellers may now be able to rest a little easier as work completes on the Dewdney Bridge replacement along Highway 7, east of Mission.

“This new bridge is one more way we’re ensuring the Fraser Valley stays well connected long into the future,” said Mike Farnworth, minister of transportation and transit.

“Highway 7 is a vital link for people living north of the Fraser River, and we know having reliable crossings is crucial as we address the realities of goods movement and climate change.”

The new bridge, connecting Highway 7 on either side of Nicomen Slough, opened to traffic ahead of schedule in June 2025.

It includes a three-metre-wide multi-use pathway for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as modern seismic and environmental upgrades to the area.

The ministry worked closely with Leq’á:mel First Nation throughout its design and build process.

“This area holds deep cultural and historical significance for our people, long serving as a travel corridor and gathering place within the heart of Leq’á:mel’s territory,” said the Leq’á:mel First Nation.

“Its completion strengthens safety and accessibility for all who travel through our lands, while honouring the living culture and enduring stewardship of the Leq’á:mel people.”

The $32.6-million structure replaces the aging 1958 bridge, providing higher clearance for river traffic and reducing flood risk.

Minor finishing work, such as landscaping and tree planting, is expected to be completed this spring.
