CHILLIWACK — Residents may have heard a number of sirens pass by as fire crews tackled a burning mattress in a home on Fairfield Island.

The Chilliwack Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire in the 10000 block of Gladys Street at roughly 10 a.m. Sunday (June 14).

“The first arriving crews noticed smoke coming from the windows of a two-story residential home,” said Chilliwack Fire. “Crews quickly secured a water supply from a nearby hydrant and made entry into the home.”

Firefighters then found the mattress on fire in a basement bedroom and put it out.
