CHILLIWACK — Mayor Ken Popove’s tire business caught fire late Sunday night, but an alert citizen’s action may have prevented even further damage to the building on Alexander Avenue.

According to a Facebook post Sunday evening (Oct. 23), Gail Popove, wife of Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove, thanked the Chilliwack community for their concern, the response of the Chilliwack Fire Department, and the alert citizen who helped save the day.

“Hi everyone, I’m Ken’s wife and I want to thank you all for your concern,” Gail Popove wrote. “It was a very scary situation tonight but we are ok. Thank goodness for a brick building and the quick response of our fire department. The damage would have been a lot worse. We will be open for business as usual.”

Chantelle Boot wrote on Facebook that her son Andrew called 911 after seeing a fire at the business. Gail acknowledged Chantelle and her son.
