CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack RCMP dealt with three incidents of shoplifting last week, including one in which a man threatened staff with a knife at a Yale Road business after he was observed putting merchandise in his bag.

According to the weekly recap for May 18-24 from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, an employee at a store on Yale Road told police that a man entered the business, placed unpaid items in his bag, and brandished a knife toward the employee in a threatening manner when he realized he had been observed shoplifting. Cpl. Kiener says the suspect fled the area prior to police arrival and was not located. Investigators are working to obtain video footage to assist in identifying the individual. Police have not revealed the exact location or the name of the Yale Road business.

In another incident this past week, a loss prevention officer at a business on Luckakuck Way reported a woman leaving the store with unpaid items. Police located the woman on a nearby transit bus in possession of the stolen merchandise. Police also determined she had violated her court-ordered conditions prohibiting possession of tools commonly used for property crime, which were found in her possession. She was arrested and held for court.

In the third shoplifting incident, a woman who is well known to police attempted to leave a Yale Road business with unpaid merchandise and assaulted security staff when confronted. Police attended and arrested the woman, who is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
