Authorities seize ‘numerous’ stabbing weapons, drug paraphernalia during lockdown at Mission prison
MISSION – Authorities at a federal prison in Mission say a lockdown put in place last week has ended, but not before correctional staff confiscated things like “numerous” handmade stabbing weapons and drug paraphernalia.
Corrections Service Canada says Mission Institution has resumed normal operations and visits following the lockdown that commenced on Tuesday, May 19.
During the exceptional search and lockdown, staff seized contraband and unauthorized items were found. The contraband and unauthorized items consisted of four cell phones and accessories, drug and tattoo paraphernalia, and numerous handmade stabbing weapons.
Last month, vigilant correctional staff were credited with intercepting over $160,000 in drugs and contraband at Mission Institution. A package containing contraband and multiple unauthorized items was seized in the medium-security unit on Wednesday, April 8, thanks to the work of alert correctional personnel there. The contraband and unauthorized items seized consisted of 300 grams of suspected methamphetamine, one cell phone, various other pills, and razor blades. The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is $165,000.
