New chief, council to be voted in at First Nation band in first election under new election code
CHILLIWACK — There will be a new chief at Cheam First Nation east of Chilliwack once voters cast their ballots under a new custom election code later this fall.
An election will be held on Saturday, December 6. In-person voting, online voting and mail-in ballots will be available to Cheam First Nation eligible voters.
Cheam First Nation (Xwchíyò:m) has released the names of its candidates for the position of chief and council. Current Chief Darwin Douglas is not listed as one of the candidates for chief.
Instead, current Councillors Andrew Victor and Michael J. Victor are seeking to serve as the elected chief.
