Wildfire smoke leading to poor air quality across the Fraser Valley
CHILLIWACK — An Air Quality Advisory is being maintained through the Fraser Valley as smoke from wildfires continues to hang in the airshed above the region.
Officials say smoke from wildfires burning near Chilliwack Lake, Hope and Harrison Lake has combined with smoke from wildfires in Washington State to smother the region. While smoke concentrations vary across the region, the hardest hits areas are in the Eastern Fraser Valley.
Stagnant weather conditions suggest the situation is likely to continue for the next few days.
Health officials say those with underlying health conditions should stay indoors in areas with cool air that is filtered. If you are experiencing chest discomfort, shortness of breath, persistent coughing or wheezing, health officials suggest you seek medical attention promptly.
