CHILLIWACK — The search for missing 43-year-old Tammy White has come to a devastating end.

Tammy’s sister-in-law, Elya White, reported late Sunday night (Oct. 9) in a Facebook post that her body was recovered in the Fraser River on Sunday afternoon.

“This is how I will remember you, my sweet sister (in-law). I will remember your laughter, silliness, tenderness, smiles, and heartfelt love,” White wrote.

White expressed thanks to first responders and rescue personnel who worked tirelessly to find Tammy White.

“Many thanks to emergency responders, Chilliwack RCMP, search crews, and anyone else who helped my family locate her,” White wrote on Facebook. “My heart is broken. Now, we grieve losing you, your spirit and your smile. My heart is broken. My hope is that you found peace you so desperately longed for. Be at rest. We ask for space to grieve as a family.”

Chilliwack RCMP confirmed Tuesday (Oct. 11) that Mission RCMP had been alerted to the discovery of a body in the Fraser River near Mission on Sunday.

The B.C. Coroners Service has been notified and is conducting a concurrent investigation into the woman’s death. Although a full determination has yet to be made, RCMP do not believe that criminality was involved in the woman’s death, Sgt. Krista Vrolyk said in a statement.

Chilliwack RCMP had enlisted the help of Chilliwack Search and Rescue personnel as well as Air One, the RCMP helicopter based out of the E Division. Both conducted aerial searches of the river and associated shoreline, RCMP Sgt. Krista Vrolyk said.
