ABBOTSFORD — After suffering a tough setback against Vancouver College a week ago in a showdown of top AAA-ranked teams in the province, G.W. Graham wasted little time Friday night getting back into the winning column.

In a bounce-back game for the Grizzlies, two early touchdowns by Tyson Orregaard set the tone for G.W. Graham as they cruised to a 29-0 first quarter lead en route to a resounding 70-12 win over Abbotsford Senior on the road.

Six different Grizzlies scored touchdowns as the offence, defence, and special teams executed brilliantly.

On G.W.’s first drive, QB Lucas Feaver (4-of-6 passing, 143 yards, 2 TDs) threw a 40-yard TD strike to Orregaard on the second play. On the next defensive series, after a 3-and-out by the Abby Panthers, Orregaard returned a punt 62 yards for a TD, to put the Grizzlies up 13-0 only minutes into the game. Running back Grady Andrea put another TD on the board with a 42-yard run, followed by a safety (Yapo Conteh), and a 41-yard run by Yapo Conteh, to propel\ G.W. to a 29-0 first quarter lead.

Defence started to take over the game, as defensive end Vincent Branauer stripped the ball from a Panther ball carrier and took it to the house for a 92-yard TD. The Grizzlies defence, with over 40 players seeing action, registered 3 fumble recoveries (Lucas Pollard, Riley Ashley and Vincent Branauer), 5 sacks (3 for Branauer, 1 for Owen Lal, and 1 for a safety by Conteh). Conteh had 7 tackles, Branauer had 6, Evan Butler had 5, Josh Seo and Sage Brunner both had 4 tackles.

Before the first half was over, RB Maleky Colgiu punched in a couple more TDs on runs of 2 yards and 40 yards to put the Grizzlies up 50-0.

“This was an important game for our team to do the little things right, and play a sharp, detail oriented game,” G.W. head coach Luke Acheson said. “I’m happy with the focus that the team kept, and glad we gave lots of players some looks at different positions tonight”

In the shortened second half, receiver Christian Beck had a pair of touchdowns of 54 and 25 yards, and Maleky Colgiu had a 23-yard TD reception as well.

QB Aiden Hewitt was 3-for-3 passing for 61 yards and 2 TDs. Brayden Macdonald added a reception for 26 yards, and Aiden Zamani had his first reception of the year for 8 yards as well.

The Grizzlies (1-1) host the Kelowna Owls (1-1) at Exhibition Stadium this Friday, October 14 at 4:30 p.m. in the B.C. High School Game of the Week.
