CHILLIWACK — Approximately 20 firefighters from Chilliwack Fire Halls No. 1 (Cheam Avenue) and No. 4 (South Sumas) responded to a report of a structure fire at 9518 Robson Street, near downtown Chilliwack, this past Monday, October 3, at about 6:30 a.m.

On arrival, crews found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames, according to a press release from Mike Bourdon, assistant fire chief of fire prevention and investigations.

Firefighters promptly established a water supply and knocked the fire down to protect the nearby houses and contain the fire loss to the garage only. The interior of the home suffered minor smoke damage.

The lone occupant and his pet were able to safely exit the home, Bourdon said. The Chilliwack Emergency Support Services (ESS) team responded to the scene to support the displaced occupant with immediate unmet needs.
