MISSION — A 34-year-old Surrey woman is facing charges after she allegedly struck a police officer during a disturbance call in late August in Mission.

According to a social media post, Mounties in Mission were called to a disturbance between two people on Dewdney Trunk Road near Cedar Street on Friday night, August 29 at 10 p.m.

When officers arrived, officers attempted to de-escalate the incident, but the female related to the dispute suddenly punched a female RCMP member in the face.

Police say the 34-year-old woman from Surrey was arrested for assaulting a police officer, obstructing a peace officer, and causing a disturbance. Charges are being recommended.

The incident was one of 407 police calls the Mission RCMP detachment fielded from August 25-31.

One of the more notable calls the detachment handled involved a man passed out in the parking lot of a Horne Street gas station on Wednesday evening, August 27. An officer responded and spoke with the man, and confirmed he was under the influence of drugs, but did not need medical assistance. However, the 31-year-old had an outstanding DNA Order for him, stemming from a conviction from a residential break and enter in 2015. The man’s DNA was obtained – to be placed on the National DNA Databank, for comparison against DNA located at other crime scenes – and the man was transported to a homeless shelter.
