FRASER CANYON — A wildfire that rapidly grew near Yale only one week prior has now been classified as being held.
The 111-hectare Sailor Bar blaze more than doubled in size within 24 hours on Monday (Aug. 25) as crews battled poor visibility, steep terrain and regional heat warnings.
In an update this morning (Aug. 30), the BC Wildfire Service reported that the fire has experienced minimal growth and has mostly been a smouldering ground fire with pockets of weak surface flames.
Crews will continue to work on suppression at the top of the slope with support from helicopter bucketing.
