CHILLIWACK — Visitors to one of Chilliwack’s busiest parks have now been capped off as two major events take place on the 132-hectare stretch this Labour Day weekend.

Island 22 has reached its full capacity as it hosts both the horse trials at the equestrian park and strong sockeye returns on the Fraser River, according to the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD).

“Please be advised that at peak times we are anticipating limited or no parking availability,” wrote the District.

“For the safety and enjoyment of all guests, please consider visiting Island 22 Regional Park at another time to enjoy the trails or off-leash dog park facility.”

For those intent on visiting or fishing at the park this weekend, the FVRD is urging guests to:

  • Use 4WD and go slow when fishing.
  • Watch for signs saying the boat launch parking is full.
  • Do not fish in the boat launch area.
  • Park single cars in the day use lot, which is the last parking lot on the right.
  • Do not block exits or park on the dike– violators will be ticketed and/or towed.

Anglers are also asked to throw out fish remains in the river or pack them out of the park.

The FVRD encourages guests to visit other regional parks at this time.
