CHILLIWACK — Two cars were torched late at night this past week in Chilliwack, leading to speculation that the vehicles were stolen and dumped in Chilliwack before going up in flames.

A Chilliwack resident told Fraser Valley Today the incident involving two vehicles happened early Thursday morning, August 21 on Old Orchard Road, one of which could have been a mid-2000s Ford Mustang.

“Definitely suspicious. Police voiced the cars could be stolen,” the resident said. “The cars were parked next to one another but no accident, which we initially thought had been the case.”

The woman said her boyfriend didn’t hear anyone around the time of the accident, while her neighbour checked her cameras and didn’t see anyone.

An estimated four RCMP vehicles and three fire trucks responded to the incident shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday morning. The resident says the two torched vehicles were removed promptly.

“Cars were removed within 2 hours. Pretty impressive how emergency services was so fast,” she said. “One police vehicle stayed for hours alone.”

The vehicles were torched adjacent to a forested property, raising concerns that the fire could have spread if left unchecked or unreported.

“This is exactly where the cars were. Could have been a serious forest fire,” the resident said.
