UPDATE 9 A.M.: DriveBC now says Highway 1 eastbound through Chilliwack is clear at the Prest Road exit.

Original story:

CHILLIWACK — Eastbound Hwy. 1 through Chilliwack is blocked at Prest Road (exit 123) Thursday morning due to a vehicle incident reportedly involving a tractor trailer.

The incident happened sometime after 5:20 a.m.

Several motorists posted to Fraser Valley-area Facebook groups during Thursday’s morning commute to say traffic is backed up eastbound, while westbound traffic appears to be getting through just fine.

Gage St. Denis wrote in Chilliwack Scanner: “Semi truck hit the median and dragged cables across road, road covered in oil as well.”

Aleisha Aide wrote on Facebook: “A semi hit the cable center meridian on Hwy. 1 east bound between Prest exit and Annis exit. Pulled over to the shoulder and the cable is attached to his bumper and still strung across the ground. Cars are having to drive over it.”

DriveBC wrote on X/Twitter at 6:27 a.m.: “Vehicle incident has all eastbound lanes blocked at Prest Rd in Chilliwack. All traffic is being diverted off at the exit. Expect major delays due to congestion.”
