Convicted murderer dies at Abbotsford prison
ABBOTSFORD — A man who stabbed his wife to death in 2012 and was later convicted of second-degree murder has died at an Abbotsford prison.
Correctional Services Canada says Nelson Tayongtong, an inmate at Pacific Institution/Regional Treatment Centre, died on Sunday, August 10 while in custody due to apparent natural causes.
CSC says the 52-year-old inmate had been serving a life sentence that began on October 27, 2017.
According to multiple published reports, Tayongtong was arrested on a warrant in the death of his wife, Aicha Saludares, whose body was found in September 2012. Peel Regional Police sought an arrest warrant for her then 39-year-old husband, Nelson Tayongtong.
