MAPLE RIDGE — Ridge Meadows police are investigating a fatal car crash in Maple Ridge this morning (July 11).

RCMP frontline officers responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle incident at 240th Street and Highway 7 at around 3:05 a.m. The incident is believed to involve a single vehicle.

Maple Ridge Fire and BC Emergency Health Services were on scene when police arrived. The Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team (ICARS) were later called out to help with the investigation.

Witnesses on social media shared that the car appeared to have nearly wrapped itself around a traffic pole.

Drivers were asked to have patience and plan an alternative route, as road closures were in place for most of the morning. These included Lougheed Highway eastbound between Jim Robson Way and 240th Street, and traffic was reduced to one lane westbound between Jim Robson Way and 240th Street.

DriveBC reported Highway 7 reopened in both directions as of 12:30 p.m.

Anyone with dashcam or surveillance video from the area is urged to call Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251. Affected witnesses can also contact the detachment’s Victim Services program at 604-467-7650.

No further information is available as police investigate.
