HOPE/SUNSHINE VALLEY — Telus customers in Hope, Sunshine Valley and Princeton who rely on the telecom for things like internet, cable TV, home phone and 9-1-1 landline had their service interrupted for most of Sunday due to cable theft.

Telus reported on its website that there was a failure of multiple wireline services for Hope, Sunshine Valley and Princeton. The outage began at 2:19 a.m. Sunday, July 6 and was only restored by late Sunday night.

The impacted services involved internet, Optik TV, PIK TV, home phone, and 9-1-1 landline.

The company said the service interruption was due to “damage inflicted upon Telus infrastructure (cable theft).” It posted multiple updates throughout the day Sunday that its service technicians were engaged and an investigation was underway.

“We apologize, Telus services are currently experiencing a disruption impacting landline phones, which may affect your ability to reach emergency (911) services,” Telus wrote on its website. “We recognize how this interruption may impact you, and we appreciate your patience as we work to restore services as quickly as possible.”

People in a Sunshine Valley-area Facebook group reported that cell service in the small unincorporated community southeast of Hope was impacted.

By 8:53 p.m., Melissa Smale reported in that same Sunshine Valley Facebook group that telecommunications services had been restored.
