Multiple patients hospitalized after serious crash at Vedder/Thomas in Chilliwack Sunday

UPDATE 10 A.M. MONDAY: A B.C. EHS spokesperson has confirmed that five ambulances and an air ambulance were dispatched for the serious motor vehicle collision near Vedder Road and Thomas Road Sunday afternoon in Chilliwack, which sent four people to hospital, including two in critical condition.

“Three ambulances with primary care paramedics, an ambulance with advanced care paramedics, an advanced care paramedic response unit and an air ambulance responded to the scene,” Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites said. “Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to four patients. One patient was transported by air ambulance to hospital in critical condition. A second patient was transported by ground ambulance to hospital in critical condition, and two other patients were transported to hospital in stable condition.”

CHILLIWACK — A patient has been airlifted to hospital after a serious motor vehicle incident at Vedder Road and Thomas Road in Sardis on Sunday afternoon.

According to scanner traffic, multiple witness descriptions, pictures and video, Chilliwack Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance Service and Chilliwack RCMP personnel were dispatched shortly after 5:15 p.m. for the report of a traffic collision at Vedder/Thomas, in front of DQ and McDonald’s.

Due to the severity of the incident, at least three B.C. Ambulance Service units were dispatched and a helicopter, 280A5, was paged for a launch. The helicopter reportedly came from YVR (Vancouver International Airport).

According to scanner traffic, bystanders reportedly tried to assist a person who was injured in the crash.

Vedder Road at Promontory Road, north of the accident scene, was briefly blocked by firefighters in the aftermath of the incident.

Chilliwack Fire Dept. Engine 4-2 acted as the landing zone manager for the sports field at G.W. Graham, 45955 Thomas Road.

Pictures sent to Fraser Valley Today by William Snow show a damaged motorcycle on the northbound direction of Vedder Road near the McDonald’s at Vedder/Thomas, and a patient being loaded onto a stretcher/gurney.

A helicopter landed at approximately 6:05 p.m. and departed G.W. Graham at 6:38 p.m.

The intersection of Vedder Road and Thomas Road remains closed as of 7:42 p.m., according to scanner traffic.

The patient’s condition is not immediately known. Fraser Valley Today has reached out to B.C. Emergency Health Services for additional information on the incident.
