Bus driver shortage prompts Vedder Middle School to solicit help from parents for transportation to games
CHILLIWACK — An extreme shortage of bus drivers has prompted one Chilliwack school to solicit help from parents.
According to an email from Vedder Middle School staff earlier this week, the Chilliwack School District is experiencing “an extreme shortage of bus drivers. As we get prepared to start our extra-curricular sports games next week, with permission forms going home at practices this week, we had to make some decisions regarding transportation to games.”
The email goes on to acknowledge that it is highly likely that Vedder Middle will not be able to procure a bus for most of its sports games, and to avoid any need to cancel games, the school has decided not to utilize district bussing for fall sports.
“Instead, we have adjusted our athletics fees and are putting out a request to our parent community to help us keep our sports going,” the email stated. “If you are a parent of a child participating in sports this fall and are willing to help transport your child and some teammates to games this season, please read on and see the attached documents.”
