SUMAS, WASHINGTON — A massive fire broke out on a farm property just south of the U.S.-Canada border Sunday evening, sending thick pockets of smoke into the skies that were visible from Abbotsford.

According to information posted to social media, a fire broke out in a barn at 4420 Jones Road in Sumas, Washington. The farm is located less than 300 metres from the border but the smoke was visible for several kilometres north of the border in the Fraser Valley.

Abbotsford fire trucks were reportedly seen in the area to monitor the fire so that embers did not spread to the Canadian side. Fire trucks were seen coming off Vye Road in Sumas Prairie.
