Teenage male dirtbike rider tries to elude police in Maple Ridge, crashes and racks up hefty fine
MAPLE RIDGE – Police in Maple Ridge are calling out the poor decision making of a 16-year-old male e-dirt bike rider after the teen was caught doing wheelies and illegal street manoeuvres and later crashed as he attempted to elude police.
Maple Ridge Mounties say one of its Road Safety Target Team officers was driving in an unmarked police vehicle last weekend when he observed an illegal electronic dirtbike in the 24800 block of 100 Avenue performing wheelies and passing motor vehicles at approximately 70 km/h.
Once police saw the rider head down a dead-end street, the officer activated his emergency lights and siren. Police say the driver failed to stop for the officer and actually sped up before attempting to drive off onto an off-road trail.
The rider subsequently crashed his dirt bike into a grassy ditch area and was taken into custody by the officer.
