CHILLIWACK — City crews are looking to take advantage of the clear skies as night work resumes in a section of southwest Chilliwack.

Night work was cancelled and rescheduled last week due to weather, but Tyson Road between Balmoral Avenue and Insley Avenue, and South Sumas Road between Dover Street and Evans Road will be closed tonight, May 23, at 7 p.m. to May 24, 6 a.m.

“Works will include milling and paving,” wrote the City of Chilliwack. “The work will be completed at night to minimize the impact to the neighbourhood and avoid traffic disruption over and extended period.”

Staff received a $500,000 Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant from the province for the design-build project. The initiative aims to improve car, pedestrian and cyclist safety on Tyson Road. Work includes curb installation and multi-use pathways on both sides of the road, signalized intersection upgrades and widening at South Sumas Road, streetlighting and more.

Work is set to be complete on June 30.
