Shoplifter arrested after threatening store manager in Mission

MISSION — Police have been busy with a number of property crimes over the last week, including one incident that led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man in Mission.

Mounties responded to the report of a shoplifter threatening the manager of a major retailer on London Avenue on the evening of May 29, in which the man allegedly raised his fist at the manager before fleeing.

Officers later found the suspect, “whom police have dealt with many, many times”, walking along the nearby train tracks.

He was arrested for robbery, theft and an outstanding warrant.

No staff were injured in the incident.

Earlier in the week, RCMP said a “large amount of tools” and a golf cart were stolen in a break-and-enter at Camp Luther on Shook Road overnight between May 24 and 25.

The following morning, on May 26, a suspect then forced entry into a home basement on Cedar Avenue, north of 7th Avenue and stole “a considerable amount” of jewelry.

The golf cart has since been found, but anyone with information about either crime or who has seen someone selling tools with “Camp Luther” or “CL” stamped on them is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 and quote file numbers 26-6674 and 26-6753.

Police are also asking residents to report any suspicious cars or people working on utility wires after some were recently cut near the Stave Lake boat launch, about a kilometre up the Florence Lake Forest Service Road.

“It appears that the wires were cut with the intention of stealing them, however the thieves did not actually get away with the wire,” said Mission RCMP. “Regardless, the damage done was considerable.”

Police responded to a total of 390 calls for service from May 25 to May 31, according to Mission RCMP’s latest Community Connection.
