Frontline youth worker with over 20 years’ experience to run for Chilliwack school board

CHILLIWACK – A frontline youth worker who locally worked for two decades in group homes that supported at-risk youth will run for the Chilliwack Board of Education in this fall’s municipal election.

According to a biography on the Trustees for Change website, Marina Garmon and her partner are concerned parents whose youngest son is enrolled in the Chilliwack public school system.

Garmon has a unique passion and concern for the well-being of children from vulnerable groups and difficult home situations based on her career working with at-risk youth.

Garmon built a career around these interests. She has 20 years of experience working hands-on in group homes that supported youth between the ages of 5-18. In these environments, Garmon worked alongside youth who presented with diverse emotional and behavioural challenges. Having grown up in the system herself, Garmon says she brings real world experience to understanding how best to include and uplift vulnerable and marginalized youth.
