Abbotsford — The aroma of food wafted through the air as thousands made their way to the Abbotsford Block Party at the Abbotsford Exhibition Park over the course of the weekend.

Jason Faria is the owner/operator of The Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival company that hosted the event and said this is the last event of the year.

“We’ve been going since April, when we started with Food Truck Wars,” Faria said. “We look to support local businesses, food trucks, entertainers, and live music, and bring it all together in different cities on different weekends.”

The Abbotsford Block Party started on Friday, September 16, and ended on Sunday night. There were 20 food trucks, a local market presented by BC Shop Local, DJs, live music, games, and other activities.

Faria and his wife founded the company in 2014, after working with the Fraser Valley Food Truck Festival.

“We started in 2013 and had our own food trucks,” he explained. “We worked with the Fraser Valley Food Truck Festival, and we saw it as an opportunity and wanted to get involved. Then in 2018, we took over the company and it became the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival.”

The foodie entrepreneurial couple want money from the festivals to work for the benefit of local businesses.

“Generally, it’s mom and pop,” he said. “This business is all about supporting the families and the network around it. For every dollar spent, so a significant portion of what we do just ends up in the community.”

The event was free to enter, with patrons only paying for food and drink.

Faria estimated there were approximately 2500 to 3000 people in attendance on Sunday.
