CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce is hoping to sow the seeds of local agricultural success with a new initiative: the Chilliwack Farm Story.

Throughout the year, the Farm Story website will feature farmer spotlights, homegrown innovations and agritourism experiences for locals and visitors alike. Chamber CEO Leanna Kemp says it’s also a unique way for policymakers to track Chilliwack farms’ impacts on the economy, environment, food security and animal welfare.

“Farmers are looking for a way to tell their story to the consumers from their perspective and […] being able to invite people onto the farm, share the good work that they’re doing in all four of those areas… it helps the residents understand different things that are happening around the community and why,” said Kemp.

Participating farms include Creekside Creamery, Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry and Greendale Acres. The website is still pretty green, with most content set to bloom during the peak season, from April to June.

“We’re hoping, as the project evolves, that we’ll start to see some farm-to-table initiatives where we’ll be able to invite the community and residents onto farms to see some of the things that we’re talking about instead of just reading about them.”

Farmland makes up more than two-thirds of Chilliwack turf—more coverage than any other Lower Mainland community. The city’s 700+ farms contribute an estimated $700 million to the local economy, accounting for 29 per cent of its economic activity. Products range from dairy and poultry to cornfields, fresh berries and greenhouses.

“It’s going to be really cool just kind of learning and seeing agriculture from our backyard,” Kemp added. “‘What did Chilliwack do in the overall agriculture picture when it comes to the province and the country?’ and sharing those stories with our local community.”

The project partners, the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Chilliwack, and Chilliwack Economic Partners provided funding for 2025. The Chamber hopes to secure more support to continue the project year-over-year.
