ABBOTSFORD — Given their repeated and recent emphasis on removing impaired drivers from Abbotsford-area roads, a 63-year-old man hasn’t gotten exactly gotten the memo from the Abbotsford Police Department.

Abbotsford police say their traffic officers arrested a repeat offender known for impaired driving offences earlier this week. Unbelievably, the arrest marks his fifth incident of impaired driving in the past five years.

But it gets worse. In the last 95 days alone, Abbotsford police say their unit has arrested him twice and charged him criminally for impaired driving.

Police provided a picture of what appears to be a Ford Ranger-looking truck getting impounded by a tow truck. The man’s license plate is obscured by police, who haven’t released his name.

Earlier this week, nearly two dozen drivers were removed from Abbotsford-area roadways by the Abbotsford Police Department in the equivalent of two days.

According to a statement from Sgt. Paul Walker, AbbyPD says impaired driving continues to impact the community, leading to the loss of life and/or serious injuries. In just 56 days alone to start off 2025, AbbyPD removed 188 impaired drivers.

This past week, AbbyPD’s Patrol shift one initiated Project Pegasus, a proactive effort to identify and apprehend impaired drivers on Abbotsford roads using covert and overt methods. Over four 12-hour shifts from Saturday, February 22 to Tuesday, February 25, officers successfully removed 21 impaired drivers, all of whom were impaired by alcohol. This effort was part of this shift’s proactive policing, all while handling an additional 153 operational police files during this period.

“It was a complete team effort,” said AbbyPD Constable Michael Beck. “Everyone contributed, from plainclothes officers and uniformed officers stopping vehicles, to administrative staff handling paperwork, and our Operational Support Officers assisting with vehicle impoundments.”

The Abbotsford Police Department says it remains committed to ensuring the safety of the community and urges all residents to make responsible choices and avoid impaired driving.

“Together, we can prevent tragedies and keep our roads safe for everyone. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, please report it immediately. Your vigilance can save lives,” AbbyPD wrote.
