Suspicious fire breaks out in abandoned house west of downtown at Wellington and Robson; at least 6th fire in 3 weeks in Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK — A suspicious fire broke out Thursday (Sept. 8) evening at an abandoned home at the corner of Wellington Avenue and Robson Road, prompting a flurry of RCMP and Chilliwack Fire Department personnel to respond to the blaze.
At least three RCMP units and four Chilliwack Fire engines responded sometime after 8 p.m. to the northeast corner of Wellington and Robson, 45711 Wellington Avenue to be exact, for a report of a fire at an abandoned home.
First responders had closed off through traffic on Wellington as well as nearby Edward Street and Robson Street as crews quickly doused the blaze.
Fraser Valley Today spoke with two neighbours, including a polite teenaged boy who lives with his grandfather just north of the abandoned home. He reported that he heard the sound of breaking glass coming from the home; he initially believed it was a raccoon in the neighbourhood or his cat.
