Hope Fire to ‘climb the wall’ in annual BC Lung fundraiser

HOPE — The Hope Fire Department is racing other fire halls atop the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre for this year’s Climb the Wall event.

Since 2002, the BC Lung Foundation has challenged firefighters to run up the stairs of a nearly 50-storey building.

Moon Pruvost with Hope Fire is looking forward to beating her time and fundraising goal after another year with the fire department.

“I was new to the station and had only been on active duty for a few weeks before last year’s event,” said Pruvost. “I hadn’t mastered breathing in the gear yet.”

The event has become a long-standing tradition for Hope firefighters.

“Lung health is a priority in the fire service, and training for events like this benefits our team and community,” said Tom DeSorcy, former Hope Fire Chief and current Board Chair at BC Lung.

Last year’s event saw nearly 200 firefighters and more than 70 non-firefighter participants.

Anyone interested in registering or donating can visit BC Lung’s event website.

Climb the Wall will be held next month on March 2nd.
