CHILLIWACK — B.C. Transit, in partnership with the City of Chilliwack, announced Monday morning that bus service will be expanded in Chilliwack starting in 2025.

According to a news release, improvements are being made to weekend service on six specific transit routes spanning Sardis, Promontory, Fairfield Island and Chilliwack starting Janauary 5, 2025. Those six routes consist of Vedder (route 51), Evans (route 52), Fairfield (route 53), Promontory (route 54), Broadway (route 57), and Tyson (route 58).

B.C. Transit says Sunday service on route 51 (Vedder) will now operate approximately every 30 minutes.

These changes will give bus riders an opportunity to travel earlier and later in the day on weekends. The transit authority attributes the service expansion to a boost in municipal and provincial funding.

The operating grant provided in the 2024-25 provincial budget will allow B.C. Transit and its local government partners to provide safe and reliable service, B.C. Transit said, adding that public transit remains a priority in Fraser Valley communities like Chilliwack.

B.C. Transit also announced extra trips on Route 66, the Fraser Valley Express, between McCallum Park and Ride in Abbotsford and Lougheed SkyTrain Station.
