CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack residents know a good deal when they see one, especially when proceeds benefit exemplary and worthwhile programs right here in the Chilliwack community.

While precipitation appeared ominous early Saturday morning, rain never materialized as thousands of bargain hunters and book lovers converged on the Rotary facility on Wolfe Road for the Rotary one-day book sale under cloudy skies and cool temperatures.

Seniors, families, teens, and bibliophiles alike found it hard to resist the allure of bargains at a time when just about everything has increased in price.

Dozens of Rotary volunteers arrived at least three hours before the book sale began at 10 a.m. to set up tables and tents and deliver a cornucopia of books, CDs, albums, DVDs, comic books, children’s and teen selections, and book sets to eager patrons.

There were even boxes of free items and a coloring book featuring assorted wildlife of Browne Creek Wetlands.

Most if not all items were $5 or less; volunteers donning fluorescent vests restocked books, processed payments with cash or credit, and assisted patrons on the grounds of the Rotary facility next to Townsend Park.

All proceeds go right back into the Chilliwack community that Rotary invests in, including the Rotary Vedder trail, Rotary scholarships for exemplary secondary students, the “Feed the Kids” program, and other community initiatives.
