CHILLIWACK — City leaders welcomed the newest addition to downtown Chilliwack Thursday morning (Nov. 7), calling it another key improvement to an ever evolving landscape.

The City of Chilliwack says it is excited to announce the official opening of a new downtown breezeway called Paramount Alley. The 370-square metre public gathering space extends from Yale Road to the Victoria Avenue parking lot.

Paramount Alley becomes home to the replica marquee P sign, located at the Yale Road entrance, inspired by the Paramount Theatre sign that was once a focal point of downtown Chilliwack’s landscape for over 60 years. The sign also functions as a pedestrian way finder for parking on Victoria Avenue. Paramount Alley features chess tables for a friendly game as well as a food truck pad for local food trucks to offer their cuisine. Residents will find easy-to-use bike lockers to keep their wheels safe while enjoying nearby amenities.

“We are excited to see the continued improvement of accessibility to our downtown core,” says Mayor Popove. “The P sign is a great piece of nostalgia for those who grew up with the Paramount Theatre. I look forward to seeing the hustle and bustle of downtown spill into Paramount Alley.”
