Two new wildfires discovered southeast of Hope

HOPE – Two new wildfires have been detected south of Hope, while other fires in the greater Chilliwack area have either been put out, are being held, or are unchanged in their size and scope.

According to the latest information on the BC Wildfire Service dashboard, two new wildfires have been identified generally southeast of Hope. Both are considered out of control, but are not threatening any properties or what BCWS calls “values.”

One is located west of Silver Skagit Road and the Skagit River Forest Ecological Reserve; its location is considered Whitworth Peak. Its size is small, 0.009 hectares, and was discovered Tuesday, August 13. BCWS believes it was caused by lightning.

The second is located east of Silver Skagit Road in the area of Red Mountain. It too was discovered Tuesday, August 13. Its suspected cause is lightning.
